Pyongyang reveals the pillage of gold by Japanese colonialists

North Korea's state broadcast has reported that Japan plundered a total of 500 tons of gold from the Korean Peninsula during its colonial rule over Korea.

Radio Pyongyang said that Japan's wealth was accumulated on the material and human resources plundered from Korea. It stressed that Japan should be sorry and apologize for the past history and try to make compensations.

The report said that the Japanese colonialists took over all the mining rights in Korea in 1906 and pillaged enormous amount of gold to take to Japan every year. It said... North Chungchung Province and North Pyongang Province were the biggest victims.
