IMF First Managing Director Anne Krueger says North Korea should first achieve economic stability in order to join the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In a Thursday forum in Seoul, Krueger said the admission of North Korea into the organization is already on the table, but that the communist nation lacks the necessary macroeconomic statistics to gain membership.

The fund official also predicted that recently skyrocketing oil prices would stabilize in three or four years, albeit at a slightly high level.

On the revaluation of the Chinese Yuan, she said that as Chinese consumption rises, its exchange rate problem will grow. She added that the IMF advised against its currency peg for its own good.
