UNICEF chief arrives Saturday for four-day visit

The Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry said Monday...a top official at the U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF) will make a four-day visit to Seoul from Saturday at the invitation of the government.

A ministry official said...during her stay here, UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy will call for the government to pay more active attention to the U.N. organ's activities.

The nation is likely to become the chair country of this year's U.N. General Assembly session and concurrently chair a special session of the U.N. General Assembly focusing on children.

The official said...to that end, she will meet President Kim Dae-jung and National Assembly speaker Lee Man-sup.

In addition, Bellamy will receive an honorary doctorate from Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul.
