US OKs Resolution on NK Kidnapping

The U.S. House International Relations Committee passed a resolution lambasting North Korea’s abduction and continuous detention of South Korean and Japanese civilians.

The resolution calls for the immediate repatriation of all abductees and prisoners of war still living, saying Pyongyang’s past record constitutes terrorist acts as well as egregious human rights abuses.

It also said the U.S. government should raise other significant human rights concerns in any negotiations it holds with the North.

The resolution stressed that Pyongyang should remain on Washington's list of state-sponsors of terrorism until it renounces the practice of kidnapping and gives a full accounting of its past abductions.
