Ex-POW's Family Soon to Meet in Seoul

The daughter and grandson of former South Korean POW Jang Pan-sun have at long last entered the South Korean Embassy in Beijing, after being detained by an organization in China that acts as a broker to North Korean escapees.

Sources said 29-year-old Jang Young-ok and her 2-year-old son, Kang Chang-hyuk, made it into the embassy during the weekend.

The 74-year-old ex-POW and his second son arrived in Seoul on June 1st. His wife and eldest son are waiting to rejoin them at the embassy in Beijing.

The daughter and grandson were initially unable to join Jang's wife and son at the embassy after being detained by the broker. Apparently, Seoul officials' refusal to accept another North Korean defector, disguised as a third family member, had disgruntled the broker, leading to the pair's detention.
