A delegation of North Korean economic officials arrived in South Korea via Beijing Saturday afternoon for inter-Korean economic talks set to open in Seoul on Sunday.
Officials at Seoul’s Unification Ministry said that during the first inter-Korean economic talks in 13 months, South and North Korea are expected to discuss ways of boosting economic cooperation.
The officials said the 10th Seoul-Pyongyang economic talks since the historic inter-Korean summit in 2000 are to continue through Tuesday at the Grand Hilton Hotel in western Seoul.
The five-member North Korean delegation is led by Choe Yong-gon, deputy minister of construction and building material industries.
The South Korean delegation will be headed by the vice minister of Finance and Economy, Bahk Byong-won. On Saturday night, Unification Minister Chung Dong-young was to hold a welcoming dinner for the North Korean delegates at the same hotel.
The officials said the delegates are to review progress on joint cross-border projects such as transportation links and cooperation in the fisheries sector.
The three-day talks come two weeks after the divided Koreas held a Cabinet-level meeting during which they agreed to discuss and resolve issues on fisheries cooperation and push ahead with joint agricultural projects.
