Koreas to Open Office on Economic Cooperation

Delegates of the two Koreas have agreed to launch an office for cross-border economic cooperation in the North Korean border town of Gaesong.

The decision was part of a set of agreements hammered out at the end of inter-Korean economic talks in Seoul Monday, and another apparent thaw in relations amid tension over the North's nuclear development.

The agreements called for the opening of an inter-Korean economic cooperation office in Gaesong in September and fisheries talks there from July 25th to 27th.

Delegates announced the trial launch of two cross-border railways and a ceremony marking the opening of adjacent overland roads in October.

The two sides also agreed to cooperate in mining and light industries from next year.

A Seoul official involved in the talks said delegates agreed on most basic points, but that finalizing the finer points of the agreements will require more time.
