'NK Not to Disarm Without U.S. Pledge'

A Russian lawmaker says North Korea will not give up its nuclear weapons without a U.S. pledge not to interfere in its internal affairs.

Konstantin Kosachov, chairman of a Russian parliamentary committee on international affairs, told Japan’s Mainichi Shimbun that the six-party talks will see little progress on the nuclear issue because Washington is unlikely to change its hostile policy towards Pyongyang.

The Duma committee chairman said North Korean leaders are also concerned that U.S.-backed democratic movements in the former Soviet republics of Georgia and Ukraine may adversely affect the tightly-controlled society in the North.
