Historians of the two Koreas will conduct their first joint survey on relics from the ancient kingdom of Goguryeo.

The Goguryeo Research Foundation said Friday that eleven experts from South Korea and ten from the North will conduct a 12-day survey in and around Pyongyang from Tuesday.

The survey will focus on assessing the conditions of ancient tomb murals and the exterior of castles dating back to the Goguryeo era.

The Goguryeo Kingdom ruled the northern part of the Korean Peninsula and part of Manchuria, China, through the seventh century.
