Task Force to Handle NK Energy Aid

A new task force will carry out the government's proposed aid of two million kilowatts of electricity to North Korea.

Vice Unification Minister Lee Bong-jo presided over the first meeting of the group Tuesday on organization and operations.

Members include senior officials from the ministries of unification, foreign affairs and commerce and the National Security Council.

The task force will have two teams one responsible for the electricity provision and the other for the light-water reactor project.

The first team will manage the construction of electricity transmission lines and the other will review legal and technical matters if the building of the two reactors in Geumho, North Hamkyeong Province, is terminated.

North Korea has yet to respond to the South's energy offer.
