A Japanese newspaper says Japan will urge other parties to the six-way talks to demand that North Korea abandon its entire nuclear program even for peaceful purposes.

The Yomiuri Shimbun on Tuesday quoted government sources as saying the North's nuclear technology is still a threat because Pyongyang could divert it for military use.

The sources said the parties must persuade the North to give up its nuclear energy program in the upcoming talks.

The report said Seoul, Washington, Moscow and Tokyo pressed Pyongyang to dismantle its entire nuclear program in the three previous rounds of talks, but that Beijing supported Pyongyang’s insistence on its right to use atomic energy.
