Property damage from snowfall last week rises to 88.4 billion won

Estimates of property damage caused by last Thursday's heavy snowfall rose to about 88.4 billion won or 71.1 million U.S. dollars Monday as more damage was discovered in Kyonggi and Kangwon provinces, the worst hit areas.

An official of the government's disaster prevention office said... the snowfall crushed more than 1,300 hectares of vinyl greenhouses, destroyed almost 700 barns and killed more than 43,500 heads of livestock, causing a total of 88.39 billion won in damage.

Kyonggi was hardest hit, with 72.5 billion won in damage, followed by Kangwon province with 5.06 billion won and Seoul with 4.42 billion.

The spokesman stressed that the office will mobilize the police, military troops and all other available manpower to clear the snow and restore the damaged facilities for agriculture and livestock breeding.

The office is also set to establish detailed recovery plans which it will provide to disaster prevention authorities in all provinces and metropolitan cities that experienced damage from the snow.
