South Korea finishes 2nd in medal tally in Zakopane Universiade

South Korea finished second with eight gold, four silver and three bronze medals in the medal tally in the 2001 Winter Universiade held at the Polish ski resort of Zakopane.
South Korea failed to win any medal in the alpine and biathlon competition for the last day Saturday of the winter sports competition of university and college students around the world.
During the 11-day events, Lee Seung-jae, Choi Min-kyong, Min Ryong and Ahn Sang-mi had won eights golds in short track competitions.
Choi Hung-chol also won two silver medals in the ski jump individual and group competitions, bringing the country the first medals in ski competition in any international winter sports events.
All of the medals for Korea have come from short track and speed skating events.
Russia won 14 golds, nine silvers and eight bronzes to finish first in the medal tally and the host country Poland was the third with eight gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
