The Unification Ministry on Tuesday will start sending rice shipments to North Korea by land.

The ministry said 100,000 of the promised 500,000 tons of rice aid will go to Gaesong and Goseong via 100 trucks through early November.

The remaining amount will be shipped starting Saturday from the South Korean port of Mokpo to Nampo, Haeju, Wonsan and two other ports in North Korea.

After the shipment of the first 100,000 tons, the ministry will conduct 20 inspections at four distribution locations on the east and west coasts under an inter-Korean agreement.
