On the second day of maritime cooperation talks Tuesday, the two Koreas discussed a joint fishery zone in the West Sea and fees for fishing in the other side's waters.

South Korea proposed the waters west of Yeonpyeong Island and north of the Northern Limit Line in the West Sea for the zone, but North Korea wanted different fishing rules and fees.

The chief negotiators of the two sides continued discussions despite their failure to reach an agreement.

South Korea's chief delegate Shim Ho-jin said earlier that both sides agreed to jointly prevent illegal operations or excessive fishing in Korean waters by vessels from third countries.

The three-day meeting in the North’s border city of Gaesong will likely produce a joint statement at its close Wednesday.
