Gyeonggi Province and North Korea have agreed to extend an area for pilot rice farming to 100 hectares by the end of next year from the current three.

A Gyeonggi task force for inter-Korean exchanges on Tuesday reached the agreement in Pyongyang while inspecting the rice harvest there with North Korean officials.

The North asked the province to extend the area for rice cultivation sooner than the scheduled period of five years.
