Two Koreas Agree to Designate Joint Fishery Zone

South and North Korea have agreed to designate a joint fishery zone in the West Sea as part of efforts to prevent bilateral military clashes.

The agreement came on the third and last day of working-level talks on maritime cooperation held Wednesday in the North's border city of Gaesong.

According to the Unification Ministry, details on the agreement, including the exact location of the fishery zone and date of effectuating the accord, will be decided later at future military talks.

The two sides also decided to work together to block the entry of Chinese fishing vessels into Korean waters, as well as exchange fishery-related technology.

The meeting on maritime affairs, the first of its kind, was part of agreements reached during the 10th inter-Korean economic cooperation talks held earlier this month.
