The union of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives (NFFC) has proposed to North Korea exchanges between fisheries workers.

The union on Thursday said members of South Korea's Federation of Korean Trade Unions delivered the proposal at a two-day meeting of inter-Korean workers in the North's border city of Gaesong from July 12th.

Citing inter-Korean talks on maritime cooperation which ended Wednesday, the union said the exchanges will contribute to peace on the Korean Peninsula and unification.

The proposal also called for ties with the North's fisheries union and a bilateral meeting later this month or early next month on cooperative measures.

Under the plan, the NFFC union will soon form a related representative body.
