Inter-Korean Expressway and Railway to Open Late October

The opening ceremony for the Gyeong-ui and Dong-hae railway lines will be held in late October, after South and North Korea put appropriate security measures in place.

On Saturday night, the two Koreas agreed on holding the ceremony, as well as on five other items, during the fifth working-level meeting for the inter-Korean express railway in Gaesong.

The joint onsite checks on the Gyeong-ui line will begin on August 18th and on the Dong-hae line on the 23rd. The checks will inspect connecting sections in preparation for test runs in October.

Seoul and Pyongyang also agreed to exchange a list of people who will be assigned to the joint commissions for expressway operations as soon as possible.

In addition, the two Koreas will cooperate to provide technological support for railway construction. The South will provide materials and equipment for building railway stations in the North.
