An international declaration mandating compensation for colonial rule has been adopted.

The Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry said the declaration was adopted at an international conference on the abolition of racial discrimination, which was held in Teheran, Iran Wednesday.

The declaration subjects countries responsible for racial discrimination, slave trade and colonial rule to responsibility and compensation.

The declaration also calls for fair and appropriate compensation for colonial occupation regardless of its duration and period.

The conference was attended by 35 Asian countries, including South and North Korea and the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights.
