Officials from the two Koreas will meet in the South Korean city of Munsan on Monday for the fifth round of working-level talks on bilateral maritime cooperation.

Over the next three days, the two sides will discuss ways to further promote cooperation in maritime affairs following the effectuation of inter-Korean maritime accords.

They are also expected to discuss procedures on allowing North Korean commercial vessels to pass through the Jeju Straits.

Under agreements that took effect last Friday, both Koreas will open their maritime routes and ports to the other side, enabling vessels from either side to travel through the other's maritime zones after obtaining permission from relevant authorities.

The agreements also call on the two Koreas to cooperate in the event of maritime accidents, including shipwrecks, collisions and marine pollution caused by oil leaks.
