Cheju Island will adopt a "Cheju Declaration" on peace and prosperity when it hosts a conference of international leaders in June.

Dozens of former world leaders are expected to attend the conference scheduled for June 15th through the 17th. Among them are former Japanese Prime Minister Nakasone Yasuhiro, former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and ex-U.S. president George Bush.

Local officials say the declaration is intended to promote the southern resort island's image as a tourist attraction and also invite domestic and foreign investment.
