The head of South Korea's state-run tourism agency says Seoul should practice caution in inter-Korean projects, citing lingering differences between the two Koreas.
President Kim Jong-min of the Korea National Tourism Organization (KNTO) said in a news conference Tuesday that too much attention on North Korean tourism projects would excessively pressure both Koreas.
He said envisioned tour programs in the North may initially attract curious South Koreans but that their hefty price would eventually alienate customers, adding that Pyongyang should also be aware of such a fact.
A one-day trip to the North's border city of Gaesong would cost several hundred thousand won compared to 30-thousand won or so for a similar trip to a South Korean city.
Regarding recent accusations of misconduct against Hyundai Asan vice president Kim Yoon-kyu, the KNTO head said he was not in a position to say whether the scandal would affect Hyundai’s tourism ventures in the North.
