The Korean Medical Association will donate 500 hospital beds to the Red Cross hospital in Pyongyang as part of inter-Korean medical cooperation projects.

The association said Wednesday that it decided to contribute the beds as the hospital in the North Korean capital had suffered damage to a number of its wards during a fire last year.

The association added that many of the beds that remained in the hospital were dilapidated and unsuitable for patients.

The beds will be shipped to the North’s Nampo Port from Incheon on Thursday.
