NK Vessels to Be Allowed Jeju Straits Access

North Korean commercial vessels will be allowed to pass through the body of water between the South Korean mainland and its southernmost island of Jeju from the August 15th Liberation Day.

The measure was among six points of agreement reached between the two Koreas during their three-day working-level talks on maritime cooperation that ended Wednesday.

The measure is anticipated to cut navigation time and costs as well as improve safety conditions for North Korean vessels.

The two sides also agreed to establish an inter-Korean maritime cooperation body as well as start operating a telephone-fax line between their navies from Friday after a test session.
