NK Official Reaffirms 'Nuke-Free' Peninsula

The head of North Korea's parliament has vowed efforts to remove nuclear weapons from the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and negotiations.

Kim Yong-nam was quoted by the state-run Korean Central News Agency as saying a nuclear-free peninsula is one of the testaments left by the late founder of the North, Kim Il-sung, and that the task is Pyongyang’s ultimate goal.

Kim Yong-nam made the remarks at a ceremony in Pyongyang marking the 60th anniversary of Liberation Day.

His comments are seen as the North's reaffirmation of a peaceful resolution to the nuclear standoff.
