Journalists from the two Koreas have agreed to promote news exchanges.

In a Tuesday meeting to mark the 60th anniversary of liberation, Chung Il-yong, head of a South Korean journalists' delegation, proposed inter-Korean news media talks and sending a reporting team to the North.

He stressed the creation of a permanent communication channel between journalists from the two sides.

The chairman of the inter-Korean journalist exchange committee of the Journalists' Association of Korea also called for Yonhap News Agency in Seoul and the North's Korean Central News Agency to exchange stories through a fiber optic cable link.

Park Jin-sik, editor in chief of the North's daily Tongil Shinbo, said he will discuss with other North Korean journalists on setting up a team for the proposed exchanges.
