South and North Korea will conduct from Thursday joint onsite checks on the construction of the Gyeongui railway line ahead of test runs in October.

Over the next three days, 15 technicians from each side will inspect various construction sites and communication devices of the 27-kilometer-long cross-border section that connects the South’s Munsan Station and the North’s Gaesong Station.

At last month’s inter-Korean economic cooperation committee meeting, the two Koreas agreed to conduct the joint onsite inspections as well as officially open the railway lines within the year.

A joint check is slated to begin for the 25-kilometer-long Donghae railway line next Tuesday.
