Koreas Agree on Farming Cooperation

The two Koreas on Friday agreed in their first farming talks to select a cooperative farm in North Korea for joint agricultural projects.

Ending two days of agricultural talks in the North's border town of Kaesong, the two sides laid the groundwork for full-scale inter-Korean agricultural cooperation.

In a seven-point agreement, the South agreed to provide various farming materials and technology to the North next year through the farm.

The Koreas will also build a special zone to raise young trees in the North's eastern and western areas to protect land and ecology there.

The agreement represents the first step in Seoul's long-term strategy to help Pyongyang restructure its farming industry.

South Korean agricultural experts can also visit related areas in the North at any time for the implementation of the joint projects.
