Koreas Continue Talks on POWs, Abductees

The two Koreas on Thursday continued discussions on the scope and method of finding prisoners of war and civilian abductees.

The two sides held their third day of inter-Korean Red Cross talks in North Korea’s Mount Geumgang.

In the previous three sessions, they agreed in principle to hold several more video reunions of separated families by year's end, allowing more families to take part. The North, however, seemed reluctant to allow regular reunions.

The North also rejected the South's proposal of allowing the monthly exchange of written correspondence between separated relatives who are confirmed alive or have met their lost kin through reunions, insisting on video reunions only.

Red Cross officials from the two Koreas will hold a final plenary session in the afternoon. But a joint statement could face delay given the differences on the handling of South Korean POWs and abductees.
