First Pilot Tour to Gaesong Begins

Pilot tours to North Korea’s border city of Gaesong started on Friday.

The first of the tours is composed of some five-hundred people from political and business sectors, including Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jung-eun and head of the Korea National Tourism Organization, Kim Jong-min.

The oldest participant of the group is ninety-eight-year-old Song Han-duk, who was born in the city and displaced during the Korean War.

The group arrived in Gaesong after crossing the inter-Korean border early Friday morning.

They will tour historical sites in the ancient capital of the Goryeo Dynasty, as well as the Goryeo Museum, Seonjukgyo Bridge, Bakyun Waterfall and the Gaesong Industrial Complex before returning home in the afternoon.

Two more such pilot tours, each involving five hundred citizens, are set to take place on September 2nd and 7th.

The one-day tour costs 195,000 won per person.
