Hyundai Group Chief Not Notified of Tourist Cut

Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jung-eun says she was not notified of North Korea's cut in the number of South Korean tourists to Mount Geumgang.

At the groundbreaking ceremony for an inter-Korean reunion center on the scenic mountain, Hyun told reporters that tour staff from the two Koreas handled the matter.

She said the North is apparently avoiding her and she has not talked to North Korean officials on the reduction, citing misunderstanding on Pyongyang's part.

The North on Monday told Hyundai Asan Corporation, a group subsidiary, that it will halve the number of South Korean tourists to 600 a day from Thursday.
