'NK Never to Abandon Peaceful Nukes'

Ahead of the resumption of the six-party nuclear talks, North Korea says it will never abandon its right to the peaceful use of nuclear power.

In a Tuesday commentary, the North’s official newspaper Rodong Shinmun said Pyongyang will continue to pursue a peaceful nuclear program to build its economy and improve its people's lives.

The commentary said peaceful nuclear activities are the legitimate right of a sovereign state under international law, citing all of the other parties to the talks produce and use enormous amounts of nuclear energy.

The daily also reaffirmed that Pyongyang seeks to resolve the nuclear standoff through dialogue and negotiation for a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.
