ITU to Name Terrestrial DMB as Global Standard

The International Telecommunication Union will likely adopt terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting as a global standard as early as March.

The Information and Communications Ministry will submit its DMB plan to the ITU working-group meeting that opens on October 7th in Geneva. The plan will then go to the ITU general session for deliberation.

Europe adopted the South Korean broadcast technology as its official standard in July. DMB service will launch domestically in December.

Terrestrial DMB enables crystal-clear video, CD-quality audio and data on handheld devices such as cellular phones or in-car devices.
