NK Denies Having 'Any' Bio Weapon

Written: 2005-09-12 15:28:24Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

North Korea claimed Monday that it does not have "a single biological weapon" and that the United States should refrain from moves that could undermine the six-way nuclear talks.

The comments, made in a commentary in the North's Rodong Sinmun newspaper, were a refutation of a U.S. Congressional report in August that said the communist state could possess biological weapons for combat use.

The newspaper said the North has sincerely implemented the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention since it joined the treaty in 1987 and that it firmly opposes the development and use of biological weapons.

It further claimed that the U.S. assessment had condemned America's negotiating partner so as to effectively chill bilateral ties and disrupt the six-way process.
