The 16th inter-Korean ministerial talks will open Tuesday in Pyongyang for a four-day run.

The South’s delegation is planning to officially propose discussing ways to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula. Such discussions have never before been held at inter-Korean Cabinet-level meetings.

Seoul's delegation, led by Unification Minister Chung Dong-young, will depart for the North Korean capital later on Tuesday afternoon.

The South also plans to call on the North to finalize a date for inter-Korean general-grade military talks and Red Cross meetings.

The issue of South Korean POWs and abductees in the North will also be at the top of this week's agenda.

The four-day talks will mark the 500th round of official dialogue between the two Koreas.
