North Korea on Tuesday blasted the United States for spreading unsubstantiated rumors that the North is secretly pursuing uranium enrichment.

The North's official daily Rodong Shinmun in a commentary called the U.S. accusation a "total fabrication" and "very rude behavior loaded with political motives."

The United States seeks to discuss lowly and highly enriched uranium in the six-party nuclear talks that resumed Tuesday in Beijing.

The commentary also said the North has maintained a consistent policy of a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula as its final goal.
