Stem Cell Pioneer Secures 14 Patents

Stem cell pioneer Hwang Woo-suk has obtained 14 domestic and international patents.

State documents submitted to the National Assembly for inspection on Thursday said the Seoul National University professor has applied for 71 patent rights, of which 14 were granted, 37 pending and 20 closed.

Nine of the 14 patents were registered in the United States, Canada, Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, India and Europe.

Hwang is conducting embryonic stem cell research with more than ten institutes in five countries.
