A South Korean official involved in an inter-Korean agricultural project says North Korea expects rice production to grow more than ten percent this year.

The official Thursday quoted North Korean officials at a farm near Mount Geumgang as saying the rice harvest will increase ten to 15 percent if weather conditions are favorable.

The North is expected to harvest 1.6 million tons of rice, up from 1.54 million tons last fall.
