The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute says two asteroids recently discovered by domestic scientists have received Korean names.

The institute on Friday said the Minor Planet Center of the International Astronomical Union has named the two asteroids after Hong Dae-young, an 18th century scientist, and Kim Jeong-ho, a 19th century geographer.

An institute team found the asteroids with a 1.8 meter optical microscope at Mount Bohyun observatory in North Gyeongsang Province between 2001 and 2002.

Five heavenly bodies are named after famous Koreans Choi Moo-seon, Lee Cheon, Jang Young-shil, Lee Soon-ji and Heo Jun.
