Red Cross Picks 500 for Video Reunion

The South Korean Red Cross selected 500 people on Saturday to take part in video reunions with their separated family members in North Korea.

Of the 500 people selected through a computer lottery, 80 percent or 400 people are over 90 years of age, with the remainder aged in their 80s.

The organization plans to decide a final list after checking the health conditions of the selected people and confirming the fate of their separated families in the North.

The size of the subsequent video reunion will be decided at the next inter-Korean working-level talks in Gaesong on October 5th. The two Koreas had agreed to hold two more rounds of video reunions within the year.

The first such event took place on August 15th when 20 families from South and North Korea met.
