The Unification Ministry will seek discussions on the opening of a sea route from South Korea's Gyodong Island to Yeongbaek, Hwanghae Province in North Korea to allow people displaced during the Korean War to visit their hometown.

The Gangwha chapter of the Advisory Committee for Democratic Peaceful Unification said the ministry has included the matter in its agenda for a potential inter-Korean summit.

If the 1.8 kilometer maritime route is realized, it would take only 20 minutes for former residents of Yeongbaek to visit their hometown in the Stalinist North.
