A domestic think tank's science and technology research network with China and North America has won raves from the U.S. National Science Foundation.

The federal agency on Thursday said the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information's overseas network "GLORIAD" is an "epoch-making incident" in the history of ultra high-speed computer networking.

The foundation said the network has enabled global cooperation in South Korea's research on molecular simulation grids and other important projects.

GLORIAD can transmit a truckload of data between South Korea and North America every second.

The research-exclusive network connects South Korea, the United States, China, Russia, Canada and the Netherlands.
