Despite oppositions from civic organizations, the government says it WILL go ahead with the opening of Incheon International Airport on March 29th as originally scheduled.
Construction and Transportation Minister Kim Yoon-ki said his ministry found no reason to delay the opening as the airport has passed tests by the U.S. aviation authority and cleared problems recently identified by an aviation consulting firm.
Kim said his ministry is determined to successfully open the airport on schedule to maintain national credibility. He added that the airport may not be one hundred percent perfect but should be at least 85 percent.
Civic organizations have suggested the government postpone opening of the airport citing problems with the baggage handling system among others.
