Cheju University professor Lee Bong-hee has been named general manager of a major domestic project on human neural stem cell proteome.

Lee will supervise research on identifying protein bodies essential for feasibility tests ahead of the application of neural stem cell treatment against incurable ailments such as senile dementia, stroke and Parkinson's disease.

Once approved abroad, the protein bodies will receive a benchmark as a global standard.

Part of a larger human brain proteome venture led by the Human Proteome Organization of the U.S. National Institute of Health, the project is expected to cost 50 billion to 100 billion won over the coming decade.
