The Korean Intellectual Property Office on Thursday said it will grant a patent for a genetically modified cow produced by cloning pioneer Hwang Woo-suk.

The cow can produce milk containing prourokinase, a form of protein which dissolves blood clots in the heart and blood vessels and restores blood flow to the brain with few side effects.

The patent is expected to reduce the high cost of production of anti-stroke drugs.
