North Korea says it will attend next month the 15th general assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Seoul.

Deputy Unification Minister Lee Bong-jo on Thursday said the North phoned Korea National Red Cross President Han Wan-sang in Seoul saying it will send an eight-member delegation headed by the vice chairman of the North's Red Cross.

The delegation will be the North's first to attend a global event in Seoul.

To mark the centennial anniversary of the Red Cross, the assembly will open on November 11th for an eight-day run at the Seoul COEX.

Some 1,000 representatives of international organizations from 181 countries are expected to attend.
