The Hyundai Group is examining how to address Pyongyang’s threat to reconsider all of its business projects with the group.
Accordingly, a special ceremony that was to take place Friday to mark the second anniversary of Group Chairwoman Hyun-jung-eun's tenure will not proceed as planned. Top officials will instead huddle with Hyundai Asan president, Yoon Man-joon, to discuss countermeasures to Pyongyang's ultimatum.
Corporate officials will reportedly seek to first identify Pyongyang’s intent through working-level meetings, noting that the North's Asia-Pacific Peace Commission had left room for negotiation in its Thursday statement demanding the reinstatement of former Hyundai Asan vice president, Kim Yoon-kyu.
Hyundai Asan and Korea Tourism Organization officials will visit Pyongyang on Saturday to discuss the issue with North Korean officials and to seek a meeting between the Hyundai Group chairwoman and the head of the Asia-Pacific Peace Commission.
