North Korea's leading daily has urged South Korea to abolish the National Security Law, saying the outdated regulation denies the North and encourages confrontation.

The Rodong Shinmun on Friday said in a commentary that the South must make a "brave" decision to repeal such outdated laws and urged steady and sincere efforts to substantially develop inter-Korean relations.

It said reconciliation and unity between the two Koreas will come only after relations move towards trust and compromise and away from distrust and confrontation.

The commentary also urged Seoul to take practical measures for national reconciliation and unity, saying mutual respect and recognition can resolve all matters.
