NK to Attend Nuke Talks as Scheduled

North Korea says it will attend the upcoming round of six-way nuclear talks early next month as agreed on at the previous round of discussions.

The announcement, however, was accompanied by fresh accusations about American commitment to the talks. A North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman told the North’s official KCNA news agency Monday that recent remarks and behavior by Washington seem to be inconsistent with the joint statement adopted at the last round of talks.

According to the spokesman, Washington does not seem committed to the joint agreement as it is pressuring the North by reiterating its call for Pyongyang to dismantle its nuclear arms programs in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner and by accusing the Stalinist state of human rights abuses and illegal dealings.

The spokesman said Pyongyang plans to hold the U.S. accountable for creating what he called an 'unpleasant' atmosphere for the upcoming round of disarmament talks.

The North’s statement comes as Seoul's Unification Minister, Chung Dong-young, told parliament earlier in the day that the six-way nuclear talks are likely to resume in the second week of November.
